Bathurst- It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Johnathan Smearer, husband of Nancy Paulin of Bathurst which occurred suddenly on Tuesday, November 4th, 2025, at the age of 53.

Born and raised in Bathurst, he was son of the late Sheila Cormier.

Besides his spouse, he is survived by a daughter: Melissa Paulin (Dustyn) of Fort St. John and one grandson: Elliott-John also of Fort St. John; two sisters: Kelley Smearer of Bathurst and Raymonde Smearer of Alberta; several nieces, nephews, and beloved companion Sasha.

Besides his mother, he was predeceased by a sister, Rachel and stepfather Walter Cormier along with many other family members, nephews, and nieces.

John had a deep love of nature; you could find him spending time in the woods at anytime of the year. He deeply loved the company of his family and friends. His contagious laugh: you could hear him anywhere he went. We will miss him deeply and we love you dad! Rest in Peace.

Donations in memory of Jon may be made to the SPCA or a charity of the donor’s choice.

As per the families wishes there will be no visitation at the funeral home and a private memorial will be held at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Elhatton Funeral Home, Bathurst.
