Winnie Ann (Moncrieff) Bullen, aged 79, of Beresford and formerly of England, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024, with family by her side.

She was the biological daughter of Myra “Queenie” Phillips (Hodson) and Ernest Joseph Owen. At the age of 7, she was adopted and raised by Alice (Solly) and Leonard Moncrieff.

She graduated from nursing school in 1966, after which she met her former husband, John Charles Bullen. The two married on August 6, 1966, had 2 children and immigrated to the cold of Eastern Canada in 1970 with dreams of a better life, so both could work at the local hospital. Following her divorce in 1987, Winnie later pursued her studies, completing a bachelor’s degree from Saint Thomas University in 1998 and then went on to start a master’s degree in theology from Saint Paul’s university in Ottawa which she stopped to care for her father, who passed away (2003).

Winnie is survived by two daughters Carol Duguay (John McConnell) and Tina Bullen; 4 grandchildren, Andrew Bullen (Christine Zheng) of Saint John, Ashley Duguay, Troy Duguay and Benjamin Losier of Bathurst; 1 great grandson, Noah Zheng Bullen of Saint John. Besides her immediate family, Winnie also leaves her other relatives of her adoptive parents in England.

In recent years, DNA test results led to the discovery of biological relatives In England whom Winnie also leaves behind. These include a half brother, Edwin Leonard Phillips, a very special “bio” niece Emma Louise Phillips and a grand niece, Marina Kaysey Phillips. Ems and Marina had plans to meet Winnie this July.

Winnie was immensely proud of her family, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. She was a woman of strong faith. Winnie previously directed the choir at Holy Family Church, was a fantastic seamstress and loved many animals.

A celebration of life will take place at Elhatton’s Funeral Home on Friday, February 2nd between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., with prayer service at noon.

Donations in honor of Winnies memory can be made to SPCA or the Canadian Red Cross.

Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home, Bathurst (www.elhatton.com).
