Fredericton – It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness, that we the family, announce the sudden passing of Richard “Rick” Northrup, lovingly known as “Billy” to so many of his closest friends, of Fredericton, which occurred Friday July 18, 2025, at the age of 67.
Born in Bathurst, Rick was the oldest son of the late Glen Northrup and Lillian (Moores) (Northrup) Jagoe.
He is survived by two sisters: Debbie Garrett (Tim) of Bathurst and Lee Anne Binnington (Mark) of Oshawa, ON.
One brother, Andy Northrup (Dennis Ruddy) of Edmonton, AB.
Also survived by two nephews: Matthew (Catherine), Luke (Krista), a niece, Brittany Anne (David) and his much loved “fur baby” Midnight.
Rick worked as a bartender for many years and in the last years he worked for Advanced Asphalt Maintenance.
Rick was one of a kind, a quick wit, a sharp tongue and a heart that stretched endlessly for the people he loved. A familiar face on York Street for his daily stop for a Pro-Line & cat food. He never passed by without offering a cheeky remark, a sly comment or a good story.
Rick’s life was a tapestry of rich friendships, legendary tales and deep unwavering loyalty and he left behind a lasting impression on everyone he met. He taught many friends to work hard, to laugh louder & to mix a proper drink.
Rick’s loss is felt deeply by his family and a wide circle of friends. We are devasted but united in our grief and in our commitment to celebrate him as he would have wanted with stories, music & to lift a glass in cheer.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be in Fredericton at a time to be announced.
In Bathurst, there will be a funeral service on Monday July 28, 2025, at 2 p.m. from the First United Church, St. Patrick St., with a reception to follow.
Donations in his memory can be made to the First United Church or a favorite charity. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home, Bathurst.
