It is with much sadness, yet with fond memories, that the family of Mary (Marion) M. Hachey announce her peaceful passing at Grass Home, 705 Coverdale Road, Riverview, NB, on Monday, September 29, 2025, at the age of 88, with family members by her side.
Born in Bathurst, NB, she was the only daughter of the late James Hachey & Hilda Carroll. Marion was predeceased by her former husbands, William (Billy) Glidden, Michael LaPlante, and a very special friend, Jerry Duguay. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having had her siblings Donald, Elmer and Harold predecease her. In 2008, her beloved son, Gary Glidden, passed away. His passing devastated Marion, but it was through totally relying on God’s strength and her strong faith, that she pressed on to finish the course that God had planned for her, slightly over another seventeen-year journey.
Marion is survived by one grandson, Corey Glidden; nieces, Sharon Gallant (Ron) of McQuade, NB and Sandra Hachey of Calgary, AB; nephews, Michael Hachey (Tracy) of Riverview, NB; Warren Hachey (Bridgette) of Edmonton, AB; Claude Hachey (Paula); Howard Hachey; and Maurice Devereau (Susan) of Bathurst; numerous cousins; and other family members. Marion will be deeply missed by all who had the honor and privilege of knowing this very kind-hearted and compassionate woman. She leaves behind a remarkable legacy and fond memories for each of us to cherish.
Marion lived in East Bathurst and then moved to Janeville. During her younger adult years in Bathurst, she worked at Kent’s Lunch Counter on Main Street, Greco and The Big Deal Market on King Avenue. She later moved to Montreal and worked as a custodian at McGill University, until she retired in 2002. After her son and very special friend both passed, she decided to return home to Bathurst to be closer to her brothers and other family members. She moved into the same apartment building, across the hallway, from her brother, Elmer, on St. Peter Avenue. The two of them became almost inseparable until his passing in 2016. She later moved to Raymond Avenue. In 2022, after it became apparent that she could no longer live on her own due to an aggressive onset of dementia, it was decided that she would take up residence at Grass Home in Riverview.
Her family would like to thank the management and staff of Grass Home; Olivia Cunningham RN; Dr. Ward, and The Extra-Mural staff for the excellent care that they each provided for Marion.
As per Marion’s wishes, there will not be any visitation at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church, St. Peter Avenue, Bathurst, NB on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 11:00 am.
In memory of Marion, donations can be made to the donor’s choice. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst, NB.
