It is with great sadness that we the family wish to announce the passing of Herbert A. Shaw, of Bathurst, which occurred peacefully at the Chaleur Regional Hospital on November 15, 2025, at the age of 98. Born in Calgary Alberta to the late Hazel and Melville Shaw.

He is survived by his loving wife Gisele Chasse married for 70 years and together they had two daughters: Lynne Frigault (Wayne) and Leslie Shaw (David Street).

Grandfather to Kelsey (Gaëtan), Krissandra (Wanda), Tyler (Mélanie) and Justin. Great grandfather to Mia, Greyson, Luka, Daisey and Beau. Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Herb was the last living member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by a brother, Mikey, and sisters: Pat and Francis.

Herb attended school in Val D’or, Quebec and worked at the Manitou Mine Laboratory as a Chief Chemist and in 1966 joined East Coast Smelting and Chemical company in Bathurst New Brunswick where he retired at the age of 65 years old. He was a devoted father who cherished time with his family. Herb was also passionate about his hobbies hunting, fishing, curling, golfing, downhill skiing, clock repair, canvas painting, a skilled artisan making violins, and baking. He was known for his positive personality, honesty, and kindness and left a lasting impression on everyone that knew him. Herb became a certified ham radio operator in 1948 he could often be found in his radio room connection with people across the globe which included communicating around the world through morse code. Herb was an astute mathematician that could reconcile to the penny.

A celebration of Herbert’s life will take place at a later date.
