South Tetagouche – Hugh Smyth, husband to the late Barbara Ann (Good) Smyth, of South Tetagouche, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026, at the Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes, Bathurst, at the age of 80.
Born in South Tetagouche, he was the son of the late Newton and Marion (Good) Smyth.
He was retired from Elco.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and is survived by one son, Leslie (Tammie) of Charlottetown, P.E.I.
Two daughters: Wanda McLaughlin (Danny) of Cornwall, P.E.I. and Brenda Vibert (Robert) of Fredericton, N.B.
Six grandchildren: Kelsie, Brandon, Brook, Tory, Ryan, Katie, and one great-granddaughter, Rowan.
Also survived by his special friend, Janet Pitre.
Several nieces and nephews.
Besides his spouse and parents, he was predeceased by two sisters: Ruth and Charlotte.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Elhatton's Funeral Home, 187 St. George St., (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday afternoon January 7, 2026, at 2 p.m. from Elhatton’s Funeral Home Chapel. Donations in memory of Hugh can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes for the care and compassion given to Hugh during his stay.
