North Tetagouche - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Bertin, which occurred on Saturday April 4, 2026, at the age of 73. Born in 1952, Charles was a lifelong resident of Bathurst, New Brunswick.
Charles was predeceased by his loving spouse, Joanne Bertin, with whom he shared many cherished years.
He leaves behind his children, Chantal Colpitts (Nick) and Normand Cormier, as well as his beloved grandchildren, Alexander and Camryn, who brought him immense pride and joy.
He is also survived by his sisters, Linda, Connie, and Lorraine, along with extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Charles dedicated his career to VIA Rail, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment. Outside of work, he found great enjoyment in genealogy, biking, walking, and photography. He had a deep appreciation for history and spent many hours exploring family roots and capturing moments through his lens.
Affectionately known to many as “Old Balls,” Charles had a memorable personality and a sense of humour that left a lasting impression on those who knew him.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Monique Larocque for the care and compassion shown to Charles.
Honouring his wishes, there will be no funeral service. Donations in Charles’ memory may be made to the Bathurst Heritage Museum/Genealogy Club.
He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his love of family, and the simple joys he found in life.
Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home, Bathurst (www.elhatton.com).
