It is with sadness that we the family, announce the passing of Elizabeth Jean Babin, wife of the late Kenneth Babin, of Bathurst. Jean passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, in the Palliative Care Ward at the Chaleur Regional Hospital at the age of 92.

Born in Bathurst in 1933, she was the daughter of late Robert and Lena (Kerr) Thomson and lived her entire life in Bathurst and Youghall.

She is survived by her four sons and one daughter: David (Jody), Gary (Beverly), Tim (Lise), Peter (Claudette), and Linda (Michel); her grandchildren Kaitlyn (Hubert), Andrea(JP), Samantha, Ashley (Simon), Keith (Amy), Kathleen, Scott (Celine), Chloe (Adam); and great-grandchildren Zoey and Gabriella, Bennett and Oliver, Everett and Forest, Emma and Alex, and Louis. She is also survived by her younger sister Eleanor Todd of Oakville, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.

In addition to her husband, Kenneth, Jean was predeceased by Karolyn (Carleton), the mother of Kathleen and Scott.

Jean worked for Consolidated Bathurst and later in medical records at Chaleur Regional Hospital for many years. Together, she and Ken also operated the family rental cottages and Ingle Neuk Bed & Breakfast at their home in Youghal – and Jean was quick to insist that “Youghall” be spelled the original and proper way!

Jean loved to travel, often with close friends and family. Memorable summers were spent camping in Prince Edward Island with Ken and the children, all dressed in matching red hoodies so no one would get lost. Later in life, she and Ken enjoyed overseas travel, Caribbean cruises, and visits with family in Tortola.

Jean embraced life fully and enjoyed snowmobiling, golfing, curling, painting, photography, and reading. She always had a camera or iPad nearby, ready to capture a candid moment. She was a longtime member of First United Church, the Scottish Association, and the Bathurst Heritage Museum, and was at one time active in the IODE.

A special thanks go out to the staff at Southern Comfort Villa and the Palliative Care Ward for their extra efforts to help care for Jean as she struggled with declining health this past year.

As per her wishes, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Elhatton’s Funeral Home Chapel (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst, on Saturday May 30, 2026, at 10 am. Donations in memory of Jean may be made to First United Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
