New Bandon – With sad hearts, we the family, announce the passing of our mum, Mrs. Dorothy May Smith, wife of the late Hales Henry Smith, of New Bandon, which occurred Saturday October 31, 2026, in her 93rd year, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst. 

Born in New Bandon, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret (Scott) Hornibrook. 

She is survived by her children: Marilyn Smith, Nancy Scott (Barry), Preston Smith (Donna), Ellen Wood (Bradley), Joyce Gibson (Rod), Mark Smith (Sherry) and Mary-Jane Early (Mark).

Also, by 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. 

Her sisters: Rena Jagoe, Eleanor Jennings, Leona Jagoe and Doreen Dempsey.

Sisters-in-law: Melba “Bo-bie” Smith and Shirley Jagoe. 

Several nieces and nephews.

Proverbs 31 describes a noble wife. “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come, she speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed.”

In our eyes this is our mum to a “T”.

There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday morning, November 3, 2026, at 11 am from Evangel Pentecostal Church, 150 Basin Road, Bathurst.   Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com),
