Gerard Poirier, 80, of Balsam Ave., Bathurst, passed away Tuesday (September 26, 2006) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst. Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Elie and Yvonne (Gareau) Poirier. He served in World War II with the Royal Canadian Army North Shore Regiment, from 1944 to 1946, in Canada. He was a member of the Herman J. Good, V.C. Branch 18, Royal Canadian Legion, Bathurst. He was a former employee of the Province of New Brunswick as a Stationary Engineer at the Bathurst High School, École Secondaire Népisiquit and NB Community College, Youghall Dr., Bathurst. He will be greatly missed by his family, which include his loving wife, Annie (Savoie) Poirier). Five children: Nicole Black (Bryan) of Fredericton, NB Claudette Schoolcraft (Kenny), Bernard Poirier (Diane), and Gilles Poirier (Rachel), all of Bathurst Diane Bernard (Denis) of Beresford One sister: Aurelie Roy, of Corning, NY USA One brother: Roger Poirier of Rimouski, Que. 14 grandchildren; Denis, Tracy, Chantal, Pierre Luc, Ryan, Eric, Jillian, Marc, Dominique, Allain, Erin, Andrew, Eli and Veronique. 3 great-grandchildren; Bianca, Koen, Justin, several nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday (September 29, 2006) at 2:00 p.m. from Our Lady of the Rosary Church, St. Peter Ave., Bathurst. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. A Legion service will be held in conjunction with the Funeral Mass.
