Monique Colton, 28, of Boston and formerly of Bathurst, died suddenly after a brief stay in the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Boston. Born in Bathurst, she was the daughter of Brendon and Doreen (LeBlanc) Colton. Throughout her youth in Bathurst, she was active with dance, as well as volley ball, hockey and swimming. She was a graduate of Bathurst High School in 1993 and went on to attend St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, NS. While at St. F.X., she played rugby and was a member of the inaugural AUAA Championship rugby team in 1997. She graduated from St. F.X. with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology in 1999. In September of 2000, Monique left her maritime home to work with an organization providing services and programs to adults with special needs in the Boston area. She continued working in her field until the time of her death, where she held the position of Assistant Division Director of Developmental Disability for Elliott Community Human Services. Monique loved music, and enjoyed playing the guitar and singing with friends. She loved to dance all her life. She loved to laugh and to make others laugh, and was especially fond of extremely silly jokes. Words on paper cannot even begin to express the spark in her eye, the energy in her step, the mischievous delight of her smile, the infectious joy of her laughter, her loyal devotion to her friends, her fierce commitment to her work and the people she worked with, and her undying love for her family and friends. Besides her parents of Bathurst, she is survived by: 3 Brothers: Andrew Colton of Yellowknife, NWT, Phil Colton (Wendy) and Peter Colton and both of Bathurst, NB, 1 sister: Loretta Colton of Yellowknife, NWT, Several aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service was held for Monique in Boston at the Church of Our Savior on Wednesday, June 9, 2004. Friends, co-workers and clients spoke of Monique's love for life, laughter, and the people she worked with. She was a special friend to many and she will be remembered and sorely missed in Boston. The body is resting at Elhatton's Funeral Home, Bathurst. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday afternoon (June 12, 2004) at 2:00 p.m. from St. Theresa Church, King Ave., Bathurst. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, King Ave. www.elhatton.com The family wishes to express their profound gratitude to Monique's Boston family, particularly Elliott Community, for their help and support during this difficult time.
