Marguerite Pothier of Bathurst, passed away at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst on July 28, 2004. She was in her 97th year. Born in Weymouth, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late William and Hellende (Bonnenfant) Comeau and widow of Professor Raymond A.Pothier. The last surviving member of her family. She was predeceased by one son; Raymond in 1943 at the age of 15 years, two sisters; Helen VanTassel and Celeste MacDonald, three brothers; William, Cyril and Clarence. She is survived by several nieces and nephews including Helinda-Rae MacDonald of Bathurst. A Lady ahead of her time, Mike as she was fondly known by those close to her, enjoyed many careers. Prior to her marriage in 1927, she owned and operated an ice cream parlour in Weymouth,N.S. Early in her marriage she was the traps player in a dance band that was popular in south-western Nova Scotia in the 20's. She moved to Bathurst in 1930 when her husband accepted a position as professor of Mathematics and American History at L'Universite-du-Sacre-Coeur. For a number of years she was the Maritime Provinces supervisor for Spencer Corsets until she opened a ladies ware store on Main street in Bathurst. Marguerite's Dress Shop was destroyed by fire in the 50's. She was a member of the Holy Family Council of the Catholic Women's League and the Weymouth Historical Society. Visitation will be held at Elhatton's Funeral Home, Bathurst on Friday, July 30 from 2-4 and 7-9. The funeral service will be at Holy Family Church, saturday, July 31 at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. For those who wish donations may be made to the Holy Family Casavant Organ restoration Fund or the charity of choice.
