John 'Jack' Dawson, 85, of Salmon Beach, passed away on Thursday (January 19, 2006) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, after a lengthy illness. Born in Staffordshire, England, he was the son of the late William and Jennie (Jones) Dawson. He served in World War II, as a pilot with the Royal Air Force. A few years later he came to Canada with his family, settling in Elliot Lake, ON, before coming to Bathurst, where he found employment at Brunswick Mining in safety control until his retirement in 1994. Jack enjoyed his home, had many interesting hobbies, loved his animals, birds and was a great story teller. He was a member of the Herman J. Good, V.C. Br. 18, Royal Canadian Legion, Bathurst, a 25 years volunteer with the CNIB, belonged to the NB Scottish Cultural Society. He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Gladys Muirr. He is survived by his wife, Isabel (Christie) Dawson. One son: Simon of Toronto, ON Two daughters: Frances Lillie (Warren) and Aileen Johnston (David) both of Toronto, ON Daughter-in-law: Martha of Alberton, PEI One brother: Bill Dawson of England One sister: Mary Wayne of England Ten grandchildren, including special granddaughter Heather, nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Norman. There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be celebrated on Tuesday afternoon (January 24, 2006) at 2:00 p.m. from Elhatton's Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Rod Black officiating. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. For anyone wishing to send tokens of sympathy, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or a favorite charity.
