Bathurst – Our beautiful loving mother, Marie Alice Bernier, wife of the late Philippe Bernier, formerly of East Bathurst, passed away peacefully on Sunday December 14, 2025, at the age of 90, at the Foyer Chez Joanne in Point-Verte.
Born in East Bathurst, she was the daughter of the late Edmond and Catherine (Bertin) Roy.
Alice married Philippe Bernier in 1954. She was employed with NBTel as an operator before she was married and later as the bookkeeper for former Bernier’s Esso and Bernier’s General Trucking. She worked for the former Sesame daycare and also took care of several of her grandchildren before retiring.
She was actively involved with the Catholic Woman’s League, loved playing games like 45’s, crib, Five Crown’s,and Sudoku. Numbers were her thing and she was very competitive. She enjoyed making puzzles and Knitting. She enjoyed spending time at the camp and cottage with family and friends and working in her garden. She had a wonderful sense of humour & great wit in her own quiet way.
Her family was her pride and joy. She is survived by two sons: Louis (Marcie Bennett-Bourret) of Cornwall, ON and Eric (Wanda) of Bathurst.
Four daughters: Colette Clowater (Wayne) of North Tetagouche, Annette Leet (Brent Faulds) and Louise Bernier both of Bathurst and Suzanne Godin (Dean) of Robertville and daughter in law, Gail Stever of Bathurst,
Thirteen grandchildren: Peter, Steve, Marc, James, Jessica, Christopher, Kathryn, Tiffany, Vanessa, Justin, Jennica, Matthew and Andrew. As well as twenty great-grandchildren.
Five sisters: Theresa Boudreau, Beatrice Roy, Mary Jean Jacques (Percy Scott), Rose Marie Couture and Susan Goodine. (Gerry)
Three brothers: Paul Roy, Peter Roy (Maureen Stever) and Gerald Roy.
Several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son Kenneth; granddaughter, Andrea Clowater; great-grandson, Loric LaPlante, son-in-law, Blair Leet; three sisters: Agnes Pinette, Helen Corcoran, Eva Robichaud and one brother, Clifford Roy.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers and everyone that helped with her care over the past eight months.
We will all miss her.
There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. Funeral service will be celebrated at Elhatton’s Funeral Home Chapel (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday February 10, 2026. Donations in memory of Alice may be to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
