It is with heavy hearts and great sadness we wish to announce the passing of William “Billy” Alfred Broome, formerly of Rough Waters Drive, which occurred at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at the age of 85.

Born in Cambridge, ON, he was the son of the late William Harold Broom, who died in action in Germany, and Edith (Gillis) McLean.

He is survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He will be greatly missed by the staff and management of Southern Comfort where he resided the past number of years.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his stepfather, Harry MacLean.

Billy was a past member of the St. John’s ambulance, #317, Bathurst Division for 15 years, as well as a longtime member of the Bathurst council #827 of United Commercial Travelers. He was also involved with the North Shore reserve Regiment and a member of the Herman J. Good, VC Branch #18, of the Royal Canadian Legion.

After retiring from the school board in 2002, he passed his time reading, playing cards, working in his shop, driving around on his bike and visiting friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, March 5th, 2026, from 7 – 9 p.m. at Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com). Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 6th, 2026, at 11 a.m. from First United Church, Bathurst. Burial will be in Highland View Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton Funeral Home, Bathurst.
