Bathurst - It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Wesley J. Kerr of Bathurst, who passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the age of 90.

Wesley was born in Bathurst and was the son of the late Laura (Bateman) and Thomas Kerr.

Wesley had a distinguished career spanning 44 years at the Bathurst paper mill (Stone Container Bathurst), starting as a tradesman and through study became a Certified Engineering Technologist, culminating in his position as Maintenance Coordinator. Deeply invested in his community, he served on the Bathurst municipal planning committee and was active in setting up the South Bathurst Home and School Association. Passionate about education and his trade, he helped establish a vocational training program for the pipefitting and steamfitting trades at the Bathurst Community College, where he also was an instructor and taught night courses for several years. In his retirement years he enjoyed woodworking and made multiple pieces of furniture including several complete bedroom sets.

Wesley is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marion; his sons, David, Robert, Andrew (Lisa), and Jeffrey (Sandra); and his two beloved grandchildren, Matthew and Laura. He is also survived by his brother, Raleigh (Margaret); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.

Besides his parents, Wesley was predeceased by his sister, Helen (Robert); his brother, Fred (Mary); and his sister, Barbara (Norman).

Our family extends heartfelt thanks to the Palliative Care staff at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, as well as a special thank you to the Extra-Mural program staff, whose exceptional help and care allowed us to keep Wesley comfortable at home for several weeks.
