Léona Lavigne, wife of the late Alvin Lavigne of Bathurst, passed away at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst, on Thursday October 15th, 2026, at the age of 96.

Born in Bathurst, she was the daughter of the late Ludgar and Ella (Paulin) Guignard.

She is survived by one brother; Victor (Paula) Guignard of Bathurst. Two sisters; Marie Brownell of Bathurst and Regina Lavigne of Hamilton, ON. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.

Léona was a member of the Bathurst Canadian Council of the Blind. She served three times as President and three terms as Vice president. She was the club delegate to the 1982 conference in Sydney, NS. And the club delegate to the 1988 New Brunswick Division Conference. Also active in the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Canadian National Institute for the Blind’s Committee to the Advisory Board.  

The family would like to thank the Foyer Chez Annie and their staff for the care all those years Léona was with them as well as the hospital visits, which made the transition so much easier for us. We are grateful for your services.

Also thank you to the staff of the 4th East and West floor at the Chaleur Regional Hospital who took care of Léona over the past few weeks.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, October 23rd, 2026 at 11:00 am from Elhatton Funeral Chapel in Bathurst.

Donations in Memory of Léona may be made to the CCA (The Canadian Council for the Blind or a charity of the donor’s choice.
