Bathurst - It is with great sadness and broken hearts the family announces the death of Blair Doucet, 60, of Little River Dr, Bathurst, which occurred peacefully on February 3, 2009 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, surrounded by family and after a very courageous battle with cancer. Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Leo P. and Lila (Dumas) Doucet. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting & spending time at his camp. He was a 40 year employee of Brunswick Mines, retiring in Nov. 2007. He was the president for the United Steelworkers of America Local 5385 for 16 years and past president of the New Brunswick Federation of Labour from 1999- 2005. Blair prided himself on being an advocate for the people in general. He was a city councilor for Bathurst since 2004. Blair was a member of the Quarter Century Club with Brunswick Mines and recently recognized for being a founder at the S.O.A.R. group here in Bathurst, as well as the founder of the NB Federation of Labour Summer Youth Camp, for which he received the distinction of the camp being named in his honour. Blair leaves to mourn his very special partner, Joanne Plaxton, one daughter; Paula (Wayne Jones) and her mother, Susan Kent both of Bathurst, Step-son, Shawn Gallagher( Abby Mathew), step-daughter, Christina Gallagher (Sebastian Lagacé) and his very precious granddaughter, Chloe, all of Bathurst. As well as sisters; Royetta LeBlanc (late Edgar), Joan Blanchard (late Clarence) all of Bathurst, Betty DeGrace (John) of Fredericton, and a brother Robert (Evelyn) of Calgary, AB. Special niece; Susan Michelle Pereria (Hersh) of Toronto as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He was pre-deceased by brothers; Kenneth, Ron, Reggie and sisters Eleanor & Marion. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday at Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday morning (February 7, 2009) at 11 a.m. from Holy Family Church, St. Peter Ave., Bathurst. Visiting hours are Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of Funeral. In Blair's memory, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, SPCA, The Blair Doucet Summer Youth Camp in the care of the NB Federation of Labour in Moncton, NB, or a favorite charity.
