Rolla Elhatton; was a mother, sister, friend and teacher. On January 5, 2006 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, she passed away. Rolla was born in Miramichi, she was the daughter of the late Jed and Sarah (Johnson) Blackmore. Rolla was married to Gerard “Gerry” Elhatton who predeceased her in 1998. She graduated from Teachers College and taught in a one room school in South Tetagouche. She was a popular supply teacher in the Bathurst area for many years and after her retirement enjoyed spending time on her many interests. Mom loved to travel and in 2001, went on her trip of a life time visiting Ireland and England. She will be missed by the many people walking to the city farmers market and admiring the lovely flowers in her front yard. She was also very proud of her Highland heritage and participated in many Scottish celebrations throughout the province. As an active member of St. Luke's Presbyterian Church she participated in the Woman's Missionary Society and many other groups. Special thanks go to her caregivers (Jeanette, Deedee and Alma) who enabled her to spend her last years in the comforts of her home. When this was no longer an option, she resided at Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home, Miramichi, and passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit of the Chaleur Regional Hospital. She is survived by: Three daughters: Nancie Mastrangelo (Ralph) of Unionville, ON Maureen Elhatton (David Lake) of Edmonton, AB Deborah (Debbie) Elhatton Roy (Brent) of Bathurst One son: Fred Elhatton (Paula Vienneau) of Bathurst Two brothers: Alonzo “Lon” Blackmore (Gladys) of Moncton Gary Blackmore (Grace) of Bathurst One sister: Hazel Blackmore of Bathurst Seven grandchildren and delighted in spending time with them. Several nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by a brother, Jed A Memorial Service was held on Friday afternoon (January 6, 2005) at 2:00 p.m. from St. Luke's Presbyterian Church, Murray Ave., Bathurst. Burial will be in the Highland View Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. For anyone wishing to send tokens of sympathy, the family would appreciate donations to a charity of the donors choice.
