  • James Cormier 1969-2023

  •  Date of Death: February 01, 2023

Bathurst – It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of James Cormier, of Bathurst, which occurred Wednesday February 1, 2023, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Moncton, he was the son of Donna (Robichaud) Cormier and the late Fred Cormier.

Besides his wife, Patti-Jo (Lavigne) Cormier, he is survived by their two children: Shamus and Abigail, both at home.

Two brothers: Michael (Amanda Slade) of Cape Breton, NS and Andrew (Cheryl) of King City, ON.  One sister, Kim (Bob) Despres of Bathurst.

His mother-in-law, Jean Lavigne (late Norman) of Bathurst.

Sister-in-law, Eleanor Kenny (Peter) of Fredericton, several nieces, nephews and many friends.

James graduated from NBCC Miramichi’s Environmental Technology Program before moving on to become a dedicated and passionate employee of Glencore Canada for the past 30 years. Always keen to take on a challenge and support his work colleagues through mentorship, James leaves behind a positive and lasting legacy on the people he touched as well as on the environment, particularly at the former Brunswick Mine site.

James touched the hearts of many and held several titles over the years-Parkwood Heights Alumni, “deep fried fish and chips James Cormier”, “super slushy”, adventure planner, mumbler, stats guy, Raiders fan extraordinaire and skunk whisperer to name a few. He leaves behind a lasting impression on his camping family who he often treated to deep fried Mars bars, brisket, deep fried turkey, and pretty much anything he could experiment with on the smoker.

Kind, generous, thoughtful – a few of the words repeatedly used to describe James. He was a proud father and husband whose world revolved around providing the best life possible for Jo, Shamus and Abi. An annual summer adventure somewhere in North America behind the wheel of R2V2, with Chewy on his lap, was always a highlight.

Never would you encounter a greater sports fan who could awe people with the stats about anything you might ask. James’ favorite sports were however, the one that Shamus and Abi were playing.

By his request, there will be no visitations.  A celebration of life will be held on July 29th, 2023, from 2 – 4 p.m. at Camping Youghall, Site 6. Donations in memory of James may be made to Bathurst High School (In support of their athletic programs -640 King Avenue, Bathurst, NB, E2A 1R1) or a charity of the donor’s choice.
