With both sadness for our loss and joy for his entrance into his heavenly home, the family of Ford Alexander Breckenridge, age 88 of Bass River, Bridge St, Bathurst, announce his passing at the Chaleur Regional hospital on Sunday, February 12th after a short battle with Aggressive Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Weston and Lulu (Dempsey) Breckenridge of Bass River.

Ford worked for the CNT (Canadian National Telegraph) and for 38 years at Consolidated Bathurst Inc./Stone Container. He served as a Trustee for the Bass River School Board, was a member of the Spruce Grove Cemetery Committee for over 40 years and was an active member of the Evangel Pentecostal Church for almost 70 years. Over the years at Evangel he served as Board Member, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Bus Driver, Secretary Treasurer, Usher and co-leader with his wife Edrie of the Seniors Group for over 28 years. He was well known in the Bass River and Salmon Beach areas for driving his “red” tractor and also for his big garden with the produce he gave away and shared with many.

Ford is survived by his loving and ever caring wife of 67 years, Edrie Rose (Allison) Breckenridge. Left behind are his daughters: Rev. Cynthia (Cindy) Dunnett (Rev. Daniel) of Barrington, NS and Wendy Wood (Darren) of Salmon Beach. Four grandsons, their wives and great-grandchildren: Benjamin and Leslie (Olgilvie) Dunnett of Yellowknife, NT, Jonathan & Tatiana (Harmer) Dunnett and their daughter Sophia of Dieppe, NB, Davis & Lisa (Adams) Wood and sons, Hunter and Wyatt of Harewood, NB and Devin & Carla (Boyd) Wood and their children, Levi, Emerson Ford and Avah of Bath, ON. One brother, George (late Rhoda) of Moncton and sisters-in-law: Ruth (late John) of Bass River, Marie Fleming (Ron) and Sharon Flanagan (Clifford) all of Moncton.

Many special nieces, nephews and family members from the east coast to the west coast of Canada.

The family wants to sincerely thank the following for their outstanding care of Dad. The nurses and staff of the Bathurst Oncology Department, the Extra-Mural nurses and staff, the staff of the Chaleur Regional ER Department, the paramedics of Ambulance NB, the nurses of the Palliative Care Unit of the Chaleur Regional Hospital and the many caring physicians who looked after him.

Visitation will be held at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst on Thursday, February 16th, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

His home going celebration will be held on Friday, February 17th at 2:00 p.m. from the Evangel Pentecostal Church, 150 Basin St., Bathurst. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed at Youtube.com/evangelbathurst

Interment will be in Spruce Grove Cemetery in the spring.

Donations can be made to “Hugs for Kids” through Servants Heart Ministries or a charity of your choice.

The family kindly requests that masks be worn to attend the visitation and funeral service.
