Sidney Mason Jarratt of Bathurst, New Brunswick passed away gently in his sleep Saturday October 11th. He was born in Kenogami, Quebec on April 15, 1914, the son of the late William E. Jarratt of Maidstone, Kent, England, and Alice Glenys Sidney, of Lincoln, New Hampshire. He was pre-deceased by his brother Bill (William), his infant twin brothers and his eldest son Bill who died at age 58 in Nelson B.C. on August 3rd 2003. Sidney was the last surviving member of his family. Sidney graduated from Rothesay Collegiate School in 1933 and was employed at the Bathurst Consolidated mill throughout his working life. He was admired for his skill as a master fly tier, his specialty being classic Atlantic salmon patterns. He was well known among the salmon and trout fishing community and was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Atlantic Salmon Federation in 1997. Sidney had many friends and acquaintances who were a great comfort to him throughout his long and interesting life. John Noel and the members of the Murray Group (AA), as well as the Pathfinders in Big River, were among his special friends and will be remembered by the family. He leaves behind him his loving wife Lucy Catherine Hennessy, daughter of the late Patrick and Beatrice Hennessy, as well as his eight surviving children; daughter Glenys “Sally” Warriner, of Richmond, BC, and her family ? husband Brian and grand-sons Cameron and Andrew, daughter Anne MacDonald, of Weekawken, New Jersey, USA, and her family - husband Jim, grand-daughters Kelly and Catherine, grand son Bruce and great-grand-son Davis, son Sidney “Snooker”, of Nelson, BC and family - wife Donna Hall and grandchildren Patrick and Molly, son Peter Albert Charles of Bathurst, and family wife Beverly Doucet and grand-son Peter, also grand-daughter Allison and great-grand-daughter Lilyian, son John of Fredericton, and family - wife Paula Doucet, daughter Theresa Jarratt of Bathurst, son David of Calgary, AB, and daughter Melynda Jarratt of Fredericton, and family ? husband Dan Weston and granddaughter Brea. Sidney will be missed by daughter in law Hilda Rogan, (wife of his late son Bill) of Nelson B.C., and grandsons Connor & Patrick, Kevin (Bill's eldest son), Kevin's mother Brenda, also great-grandsons Sheldon and Hunter. Sidney will be missed by his sister-in-law Mary Jarratt, as well as other family members of the family, James (Bunny) and Frances (Fanny) Hennessy; Anna (late Henrik) Wesenberg; Eileen (late Roger) Hennessy; Bruno (late Stella) Hennessy; Dr. Robert (Theresa) Hennessy. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews. The funeral was held in Holy Family Church, Monday October 13th ? presided over by Father Jean-Robert Leger. He will be cremated and buried later in the Hennessy plot in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were; Marc Chiasson, Bill Jarratt, Jim MacDonald, John Noel, Frederik Wesenberg and Dan Weston. Honorary Pallbearers were; Cornelius Doucet, Ken Gammon, Albany Gauthier, Paul Lenihan, Bobby Hennessy, Bruno Hennessy, Timothy Hennessy, Tommy Hennessy, James Hennessy, Donnie McLean, Don Smear and Bobby Wesenberg. Arrangements were in the care of Elhatton's Funeral Home, Bathurst. For anyone wishing to send tokens of sympathy, the family would appreciate donations to the Bathurst Heritage Commission, in care of Jessica Ryan or a favorite charity.
