Mary Evelyne (Duval) Kennah of Bathurst NB passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025 at the age of 94. She was a loving Mother, Wife, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and friend. Born in Bathurst, she was the daughter of the late George and Ida (Dugas) Duval and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was pre-deceased by her husband John (Chuck) Kennah, and her daughter Maureen Kennah-Hafstein (Irwin).

She is survived by her children Jane Williams (Gary), Ann Walker (Lyle), John Kennah (Helene), grandchildren: Jennifer, Ryan, Lindsay, Emily, Christopher, Sean, Cindy, Steven, and Joanie and great-grandchildren: Levi, Max, Jack, Amelia, Noah, and Owen, as well as many nieces and nephews.

After completing Nursing School in Edmundston she became an RN and also trained and became an Airline Stewardess in the early 50’s flying back and forth from points in Canada to Boston. After she met and married her husband John she settled into a career as an RN in Bathurst where she raised her family.

Mom was a super organized person with a lot of energy! She expertly juggled a full-time career, raised her four children, and still managed to devote hours to gardening which she loved - she definitely had a green thumb and both her house in town and her cottage at Carron Point were bursting with blooms every summer! Along with Dad, she planned, planted and tended the “adopt-a-spot” garden area at the start of Bayshore drive. She advocated tirelessly for water and sewer services for the residents of the beach, and along with the Water Committee, was instrumental in getting water services for the residents there. She loved every minute that she could spend at her cottage, walking on the beach, finding beach glass, crafting beautiful shell wreaths from the treasures that she found along the shore, walking on the sandbars, it was truly her happy place!

In her retirement years she and Dad enjoyed cheering on the Titans at Hockey games, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing - all these activities truly kept her active and young at heart!

We will miss her tremendously but we are also grateful that she was able to live such a long, happy, independent life surrounded by the people and places that she loved.

We would especially like to thank the loving and compassionate staff at Manoir Brise de L’Oasis in Bathurst where Mom received such good care in the last year and a half of her life.

We would also like to thank the Staff in the Emergency Department and the Palliative Care Department at Chaleur Regional Hospital for the care and attention that Mom received while there.

A funeral mass will take place on July 3rd at 11am at Holy Family Church.

Donations in memory of Evelyn may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home, Bathurst (www.elhatton.com).
