It is with great sadness we, the family, announce the passing of Mary Jean “Jeannie” Payne of Bathurst, which occurred on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, at the age of 71.

Born in Bathurst, she was the daughter of the late Albain Couture and Agnes (Burns) Couture.

She is survived by her two sons and four grandchildren; her siblings: Joe (Shelva) Couture, Gary Couture, Michael Couture, Eliza (Alvin) Landry, Lucy (Armand) Couture, Ann Marie (Raymond) Thibeault all of Bathurst, Billy (Paulette) Couture of Riverview, and Wilfred (Maria) Couture of Dieppe; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by one brother: David Couture.

For many years Mary Jean was a resident at the Southern Comfort Villa. She loved having her family visit and was always so excited about her outings with her brother Micheal and sister Lucy. She was always looking her best with her hair neatly done feeling fabulous.

As per Mary Jeans wishes there will be no funeral service or visitation. Donations in memory of Mary Jean can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
