Stewart was predeceased by his brothers: Wallace, Rubin, Warren, Murray, Harold, Vernon as well as his sisters: Mildred Moore, Doris Webb, Hazel Norridge, Violet O’Neil, Verna Glendenning and Margaret Good. Stewart is survived by his brother Donald (Elizabeth) of Bathurst; mother of his children Elsie (Knowles) Daley of Clifton; two sons: Gerald (Ann Marie) and George (Sheena) both of New Bandon; three daughters: Laura (Terry McNulty) of New Bandon, Marjorie (late Charles Innes) of Lower Newcastle, Marleen (Ronald Thibodeau) of Drisdelle Settlement; twelve grandchildren: Scott Daley (Liz) of New Bandon, Kelly Daley (late John Fitzgerald) of Big Baddeck, NS, Kenyon McNulty (Amanda) of Calgary, AB, Jason Daley (Keri Knowles) of Ste. Anne, Falen Atwood (Cody) of Centerville, NS, Raymond Innes (Melanie) & Janice Innes (Blake Lynch) both of Miramichi, Monica Thibodeau (Bryan Rousselle) of Lagacéville, Curran, Denver, Kendyl and Grayden Daley of New Bandon, twelve great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A young boy during WWII, Stewart supported his family working the farm and cutting wood. He was also known to give a lending hand to other families in need as many men were off to war.

In 1954, Stewart began working at Brunswick Mines. During his career spanning thirty-seven years, he worked as a flotation operator and loader operator until his retirement in 1991.

In 1955, a young family man, Stewart continued to work in the woods and in the early 1960’s, he and Elsie, started a small dairy farm. Stewart worked sixteen to twenty hour days. Besides working full-time and farming, he had many other interests. Stewart could be seen tearing up the dance floor on a Saturday night in St. Léolin or involved in a rousing game of Auction 45 throughout the community.

In 2001, after working the dairy farm for nearly forty years, Stewart returned to the Daley homestead where he continued to cut wood, garden and exercise his team of horses.

Stewart’s true passion was horse pulling, a hobby that endured over fifty years. Thousands of miles were put on his truck and trailer as he travelled through various parts of New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Maine, often accompanied by his son-in-law, Charles. The love he had for horse pulling was passed on to his family and his legacy continues through George, Denver and Falen.

Stewart will live on in the hearts of family and friends and will be dearly missed. His family would like to thank the ER staff of the Miramichi Hospital and the staff of Percy’s Place for the care and compassion shown to Stewart during his stay.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 5th from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm at Elhatton’s Funeral Home, Bathurst. A celebration of a life well-lived will take place on Friday, February 6th at 1pm from Christ Church, 6992 Route 11, Clifton.

Donations in memory of Stewart can be made to Percy’s Place or to the Anglican Parish of New Bandon.
