It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Phillip Roy, beloved husband to Joan Roy, who passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Tuesday April 7, 2026, at the age of 69.
Born in Campbellton, he was the son of the late Albert Roy and the late Florence Sullivan.
He leaves behind his two daughters: Courtney Bétournay (Eric), and Chelsey Roy (Jacqueline Omstead), both of Bathurst.
Phil was a devoted Grampy to Chloé, Lexie, Camille and Emily Betournay.
Phil came from a family of five boys: Albert Jr. (Elaine) of Moncton, John (Denise) of Milton, Ont., and Max (Shawna) of Fredericton and was predeceased by his brother Maurice, who held a special place in his heart.
He also leaves behind many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Phil and Joan had spent more than 50 years together, having met when they were 15. He was a very proud father and grandfather, loving all his girls very much.
Phillip took pride in having worked for the Bathurst City Police for over 20 years. In recent years, he spent many hours on his tractor maintaining his pristine lawn, watching hockey games and had found a love of horseback riding, having taken his first lesson at 68.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Marc-André Doucet, Dr. Pier-Alexandre Demers, Dr. Danielle Doucet, the nurses in the outpatient department at Chaleur Regional Hospital, the team at Harbourview Guardian Pharmacy, as well as the staff of the Extra-Mural Program, for the compassionate and excellent care Phillip received.
As per his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. His family will be hosting a farewell gathering on Sunday, April 19th, 2026, at the Gowan Brae Golf and Country Club from 1 to 4 p.m. Family and friends are warmly invited to join, share memories, and raise a glass in honor of Phillip's life.
Donations in memory of Phillip may be made to the Bathurst S.P.C.A. or a charity of a one's choosing.
Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home, Bathurst.
