Thursday, March 8, 2007 Lionel Doucet of O'Neil Dr, Bathurst (85) passed away at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst. Born in Bathurst on Dec 7, 1921 he was the son of the late Alice and Mathias Doucet. Lionel was a veteran of WWII having served overseas with the North Shore Regiment and was a member of the Herman J Good Legion for 62 years. He had been employed with Swift Canadian in Toronto and held various jobs in the Bathurst area. He worked for the City of Bathurst for several years as a heavy equipment operator and later as foreman until his retirement. An avid outdoorsman he enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his family at the beach and skiing. He was an active volunteer in the early years of the Bathurst Cross Country Ski Club including support at first aid stations and the trail grooming. A loving father with a strong will and a big heart; he is survived by 7 children Calvin (Bonnie Lebans) Bathurst, John (Pauline) St. John's Nfld, Bev Palmer (Dan) Ottawa, Karen Stubbert (Sheldon) Moncton, Paula Wilson (Richard) Bathurst, Bernie (Heather) Whitehorse, Alan (Cindy) Bathurst and several nieces and nephews to whom he was affectionately known as Daddy Lionel. He was predeceased by wife Patricia (Brennan), an infant son Lionel Patrick and brother Wilfred. He is the last surviving member of his family. Visitation at Elhatton's Funeral Home St. George St Bathurst (www.elhatton.com) Sunday March 11 from 2-4 and 7-9 and prior to departure for 11am funeral mass at Holy Family Church Monday March 12. As an expression of sympathy, the family would appreciate donations to charity of choice.
