Bathurst - Joanna “Joanne” Assaff, 60 of Daniel Drive, Bathurst died November 29 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in Bathurst, she was the daughter of the late A. J. 'Tony' Assaff and Reda (Awad) Assaff. A long time curler Joanne always had a smile to offer and a zest for life. Joanne started work in the family business, the Bathurst Bakery, where she will always be fondly remembered for treating her younger brothers, sisters and cousins with 'hot off the press donuts'. She also worked for many years with her cousin Sandy at the San-Bar takeout at the corner of Main and St. Patrick streets. She is survived by: 3 brothers; Donald (Murielle), George (Suzanne) both of Ottawa, ON, Paul of Saint John. 3 sisters; Marie and Georgette Assaff both of Bathurst and Ruth Wherry of Ottawa, ON. She also holds a special place in the hearts of her several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by 5 brothers: John, Antoine 'Junior', Raymond, Robert and Michael. The body will rest after 7 p.m. Wednesday at Elhatton's Funeral Home, St. George St., Bathurst. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday afternoon (December 3, 2004) at 2:00 p.m. from the Sacred Heart Cathedral, St. Andrew St. Visiting hours are Wednesday 7 to 9, Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and Friday from noon till time of Funeral. www.elhatton.com For anyone wishing to send tokens of sympathy the family would appreciate donations to the Kidney Foundation.
