With heavy hearts the family mourn the peaceful passing of Joy at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst, New Brunswick on February 9th, 2021.

Loving wife of the late Leslie Murray Nugent. She was predeceased by her son Dale, parents George and Mabel (Hall) Thompson and her only sibling, a brother Lloyd (Catherine).

She will be greatly missed by her son Donald (Marlene Mathers) and her daughter Judy (late Alfred Melanson). Dearly loved by her six grandchildren Shauna (Greg), Cheryl (Christian), Kimberly (Matthew), Warren (Andrea), Pamela (Kevin), Darren (Kristina) and her fourteen great grandchildren.

Joy was the sixth generation born at Tweedside Farm in Leeds Township, Quebec. She obtained her teaching degree at Macdonald College in Montreal. Joy married Murray in August 1945, after which they continued to operate her ancesteral farm.

Joy was an active participant in the United Church Women, Ladies Orange Benevolent Association, Women's Institute, Megantic Historical Society and organist at Candlish United Church, Kinnear's Mills, for many years. She helped many individuals obtain and document their family history.

Joy relocated to live with Judy in 2015 and later became a resident at the Foyer Notre Dame-De-Lourdes. The family wish to thank the Foyer for the care, compassion and kindness given to Joy.

A funeral service will be performed at a later date in Kinnear's Mills, Quebec.

To honour her memory, a donation may be made to the Candlish United Church, Riverside Memorial Cemetery (Kinnear's Mills) or a charity of your choice.
