Ivan passed away at Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst on November 28th at the age of 80 following a brief illness

Born in Chatham NB he was the son of the late Frederick Carter and the late Josephine “Josie” (Daigle) Carter of Laketon NB.

He is survived by his daughters: Donna (Kingsley) of Beaver Bank NS, Debbie (Wayne) of Riverview NB, Darlene (Bradley), Susie (Joel) and stepson Robbie Lockhart (Donna) of Bathurst NB. Ivan was also a proud grandfather to Kristy, Morgan, Brady, Josh, Nicholas and Amber.

Ivan also leaves behind his siblings: Jean (Raymond) and Joyce of Moncton NB, Bill (Mariette) and Adrian (Claudine) of St Louis NB, sister-in-law Yvonne of Rogersville NB and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Edson and his sister Theresa.

Ivan was raised in Moncton by his Aunt Pearl and Uncle Peter where he became a sports fanatic. He played soccer, hockey, fastball and softball to name a few and was skilled at just about anything he tried. He thought of himself as a bit of a pool shark and darts expert as well. He was proud to be a lifelong Montreal Canadiens and NY Yankees fan.

He worked at Curll’s in Moncton as a young man then moved to Bathurst. After a short time with Brunswick Mines, he managed the Sportsman Tavern for many years then finished off his working life at the Union Hall as a bartender. He loved the social aspect of his job and could make conversation with anyone but if things got rowdy, he quickly set everyone straight - and they listened! When he needed to relax, he loved going up to his camp.

Ivan was known by many names - Ivan, Ike, Coach, Pappy but most importantly he was Daddy. Ivan raised his girls at various ball fields as his favourite pastime was coaching ball. He also coached his “Ivan’s idiots” hockey team. His players became part of his extended family.

The family would like to thank the folks at Residence McGraw for how caring and kind they were to him (especially Irene). We also are so grateful for the incredible support we all got from his ICU nurses Nancy and Francine. Thanks also go out to the folks at Eastern Prosthetics in Moncton for giving him the freedom to walk again.

The family will receive friends and family on Thursday December 2nd from 7pm - 9pm at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com) Bathurst. Funeral will be celebrated from Elhatton’s Funeral Home Chapel on Friday December 3rd, 2021 at 11 am.

For those wanting to honour Ivan’s memory, the family asks that a donation can be made in his honour to Diabetes Canada Atlantic.
