  •  Funeral Information: May 27, 2025 at 02:00 PM in Cathédrale Sacré-Coeur, Bathurst

It is with sadness that we wish to inform you of the passing of Esther Roy, which occurred on May 20, 2025, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst. She was 98 years old and had been residing at the Manoir Brisé de l’Oasis since 2016.

Born in Nouvelle, Quebec, she was the daughter of the late Alexina (née Landry) and the late Albert Roy.

Esther entered the workforce at an early age, working as a child caregiver. Later, she became a cook at the hospital in Dalhousie and also worked at the hospital in Campbellton. From 1953 until her retirement in 1987, she served as a housekeeper to Monsignor George Miller, for whom she had great respect. She worked in Belledune, Jacquet River, and Dalhousie. After her retirement, she continued to share her culinary knowledge and participated in the Cursillo group until she moved to the Manoir Brisé de l’Oasis.

We would like to especially thank all the caregivers and other staff members at Manoir Brisé de l’Oasis for their kindness and excellent care.

Esther was a creative and passionate woman with great faith in the message of Jesus’ love. She remained active until the very end and enjoyed puzzles, painting, and making special cards.

She is survived by her brother Émile (Rachelle Boivin), as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, cousins, and friends at Manoir Brisé de l’Oasis and Villa Chaleur. She also leaves behind her close friends Father Wesley, Hélène, Thérèse, and Anna; her special cousin Thérèse Hébert; and her nephew Alan and his wife Jacqueline.

Esther now rests in the Father’s House with her deceased brothers and sisters-in-law: Antoine (Angélina Roy), Eugène (Juliette Pelletier and Augustina Chiasson), Patrick (Raymonde Fournier), Omer, Vital, Bernard, and Guy, as well as her sisters Georgette, Sister Albertine Roy (Franciscan Missionary of Mary), and Sister Simonne Roy (Dominican Missionary Adorer).

In memory of Esther, a donation to the Sacred Heart Cathedral or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

The funeral will take place at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Bathurst on Tuesday, May 27, at 2 p.m. The burial will be in Nouvelle, Quebec, alongside her parents.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
