Bathurst – In Loving Memory of Shelley (Knowles) Bigney

It is with profound sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Shelley (Knowles) Bigney of Bathurst, who passed away on Monday, September 22, 2025, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, at the age of 80.

Born in Bathurst, Shelley was the daughter of the late Gordon and Lorine (DeVarenne) Knowles.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Colleen Debelois (Ramy Abdelwahed) of Bowmanville, ON and Clifton Bigney (Sara Shaban) of Riverview.

She was a proud grandmother to five grandchildren: Morgan, Jordan, Nick, Tawfek, and Tahmara.

She is also survived by her siblings: Kay Addison (late Don), Gail Louden (late Ron), and Betty McLean (Bill), all of Bathurst and Ralph Knowles of Turkey Town.

As well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Shelley was predeceased by her brother, Carl Knowles.

Shelley was a devoted member of the Anglican Parish of New Bandon. Throughout her life, she worked as a cook and caretaker in various places throughout the Bathurst area, earning the respect and affection of those she served.

She had a deep affection for her beloved Yorkie, Minnie, and an undeniable passion for shopping. A true bargain hunter, Shelley was known for her frugal spirit—often willing to drive 20 miles out of her way to save a toonie.

Her warmth, wit, and generous heart will be deeply missed and forever cherished by those who knew and loved her.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no visitation at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 26th at 2:00 pm at Christ Church Anglican Cemetery, Clifton. Donations in Shelley’s memory may be made to the local SPCA, an organization dear to her heart. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
