It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Wilmond Turbide, of Bathurst, which occurred on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit, at the age of 89, following a long battle with cancer.

Born in Baie Ste-Anne, he was the son of the late Antonio and the late Adélina (Thériault) Turbide.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Aurélie (Roy) Turbide, his daughter Sylvie Turbide (Camilien Roy) of Bathurst, his son Denis Turbide (Denise Couture) of Fredericton, and his two grandchildren Justin and Noémie. He also leaves behind his sisters Denise Turbide (Louis Vienneau) of Bathurst and Odette (late Constantin) Mavrias of Montreal; his brothers Eric (late Merelie Grant), Arnold (Colette Bergeron) of Quebec, and Mauril (Gloria Di Blasio) of Montreal; his sisters-in-law Lise Rivard, Carmel (Ray) Craig of Ottawa, Doris Roy of Shédiac Bridge, Anita (Wayne) Hickey of Beresford, Hélène Roy Allain (Vincent Allain) of Dieppe; and his brothers-in-law Léo (Nicole) Roy of Dunlop and Patrick Guy Roy (Delcina Godin) of Dieppe, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Besides his parents, he is now reunited with his brothers: Herman (Corinne Levesque), Elphège, Yves. His sisters: Corinne (Jean-Louis LeBoeuf), Yolande.

Wilmond was a teacher by profession and served as school principal at Pointe-Verte, Mgr LeBlanc, and Place-des-Jeunes schools from 1967 to 1993. Over the years, he held various positions and received numerous honors: founding president of the ESN-PDJ Cafeteria, president of Logement Chaleur, president of the Cercle Roland-Ouellette, founding member of the Bathurst College Foundation, dance band conductor (Golden Notes) and saxophonist in the Bathurst City Band, president of the audit committee and board member of the Caisse Populaire Chaleur.

Following his military service, he achieved the rank of Major and served as past president of the Royal Canadian Legion Herman J. Good, V.C. Branch 18 in Bathurst, where he dedicated many years in various roles. He was also the recipient of the Legion’s highest honor, the Palm Leaf Meritorious Service Medal.

Among his many hobbies were traveling across all continents, gardening, cooking, ATV and snowmobiling, walking, skating, cycling, cross-country skiing, and coaching hockey and baseball.

Visitation will be held at Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com) in Bathurst on Thursday, November 13, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 14, at 4:00 p.m. at Notre-Dame du Rosaire Church in Bathurst.

Donations in memory of Wilmond may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
