Bathurst – It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of René Dugas, beloved husband of Caroline Hébert Dugas, who passed away peacefully at his residence on February 11th, 2026, at the age of 60. René left this world in the arms of his devoted wife and surrounded by the love of his family, following a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Roger Dugas and Agathe (Allain) Dugas.

René is survived by his cherished children: Jean François Doucet, Marc André Doucet, and step-daughter Jennyssa Hébert Guitar (Justin); and by his adored grandson Damien, who brought him immense pride and joy.

He will be deeply missed by his brother Robert Dugas (Glenda) of Moncton; his sisters Colette Erbacker (Richard) of Kelowna, BC and Julie Duval (Daniel)of Hinton, AB ; his parents-in-law Roger and Jeannette Hébert; his brother in law Jean Roger Hébert (Tanya) and their two sons; his sister in law Sonia Hébert (Tomy); as well as numerous nieces and nephews for whom he held great affection.

René was a man of exceptional generosity, integrity, and warmth. Known for his strong work ethic and his wonderful sense of humour, he was always ready to lend a hand and bring people together. He was deeply appreciated by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A dedicated worker throughout his life, René spent many years contributing to the family business, Northeast Fuel, alongside his father until the company’s sale. He later continued his professional journey before joining Green Diamond Equipment (John Deere) at Napan, Miramichi, where he was highly respected by colleagues and customers.

René leaves behind a profound void in the hearts of his family, friends, and his extended camping community, with whom he shared countless memorable moments. He held a special love for Mount Carleton, kayaking, and motorcycle rides on his faithful bike, Jade.

He Is now reunited with his father, Roger, as well as his maternal and paternal grandparents.

René will be remembered for his kindness, his strength, and the deep love he carried for his family. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Extra Mural Program team for their exceptional care, compassion, and support during René’s final days.

The family will receive relatives and friends after 1 p.m. on Friday February 20, 2026, from Elhatton’s Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will start at 2p.m.
