Middle River – Mrs. Elvera Roy (née Garrett) of Middle River passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on the morning of April 17, 2026, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, one day after celebrating her 85th birthday.

Born in Bathurst, she was the daughter of the late Vincent Garrett and Mary (Watson) Garrett.

Elvera lived a life rooted in love, family, and simple joys.

Elvera is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Jean Guy Roy, whose love and companionship were the cornerstone of her life. Their bond was one of deep devotion—wherever he was, she was never far. Together, they built a life filled with quiet moments, shared laughter, and a lasting love that inspired all who knew them.

She leaves behind her cherished daughters: Lynne Roy (Michel) of Middle River and Lise Ellis (Wayne) of Quispamsis. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Courtney Arseneau (David Malott) of Quispamsis, Shalyn Arseneau (Brent Libby) of Saint John, Jillian Ellis (Brenden MacDonald) of Halifax, Alison Ellis of Quispamsis, and Jennifer Roy of Laplante. Her joy grew even greater with the arrival of her great-granddaughter, Madeleine Malott of Quispamsis.

Elvera is also survived by her sisters: Ethel Morin (Paul) of Edmundston, Joan Boucher (Harvey) of Bathurst, and Shirley Hache (Alyre) of Bathurst, along with many nieces and nephews. She will be fondly remembered by her sisters-in-law Constance Fortin (Marc), Sister Lilianne Roy, Armande Killam (Earl), Claudine Boudreau (Gildard), Cecile Roy and Lise Roy (Gaston) and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her brothers Kenneth (Ann) and Gary (Jaqueline), her sister Elizabeth (Emery), and her brothers-in-law Gaston Roy and Marc Fortin.

Elvera found her greatest happiness in the simple pleasures of life. She loved flowers and gardening, taking pride in the beauty they created around their home. She and Jean Guy shared a deep love for the outdoors and country living, spending countless hours together tending to their land. She enjoyed shopping trips and drives with her husband, always appreciating time spent together.

Lovingly referred to as “Babe” or “Nanny”, she had a well-known sweet tooth and would never turn down a piece of chocolate or a special treat. Her love extended to animals, especially her beloved companions Mickey and Bean.

Above all, Elvera’s heart belonged to her family - especially her grandchildren. She adored them deeply, spoke of them often, and treasured every moment spent with them. She took great joy in spoiling them and surrounding them with love, creating memories that will be held close forever.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Extra Mural Program and the Palliative Care Department at the Chaleur Regional Hospital for their compassion and care.

Elvera’s warmth, kindness, and unwavering love will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. A funeral service will be held at Elhatton Funeral Home Chapel, Bathurst on Tuesday April 28, 2026, at 2pm.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Elhatton Funeral Home, Bathurst (www.elhatton.com).
