Bathurst - It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Judy “Judith Ann” Cavanaugh who passed away peacefully at the Chaleur Regional Hospital on Saturday June 6, 2026, at the age of 78. Judy was the wife of the late Ronald Cavanaugh of Bathurst.

Born in Blackville she was the daughter of the late Rita (Underhill) and the late Hally Ross.

Loving wife and mother of six children, she was the backbone of her family and lived a full and generous life. Judy enjoyed good conversations, loved to laugh, had an infectious laugh and was an avid Montreal Canadiens hockey fan. She was loved by many for her kindness and devotion to others, always willing to lend a hand. She devoted countless hours to organizing and chaperoning school trips and swim meets, driving children to hockey and other activities. She also worked in administration at Brunswick Mines during the 1970s.

Judy is survived by her two sons Dean (Caroline) of Montreal, Brad (Martine) of Bathurst and four daughters Natalie Duguay (Danny) of Beresford, Candy Cavanaugh of Matapedia, Tracy Cavanaugh of Dalhousie, and Cindy Cavanaugh of Moncton. Nine grandchildren: Katrine, Audrey, Julien, James, Joseph, Brandon, Alysha, Trinity, and Abygail.

She will be sadly missed by her siblings Gilbert (Jill), Ellen Underhill (Daryl), Janice Ross, Deborah Landau (Petr) and Rodney (Debbie). Judy is also survived by her brother-in-law John (Connie) and sisters in law Joanne Cavanaugh (Steve), Betty Ann Perry (Ron) and Barbara Cavanaugh (late Mick); as well as her special Aunt Connie Ross of California and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, Judy was predeceased by her sister Carol Nesbit.
She will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home as per her wishes. The Funeral will be held at the Holy Family Church on Monday June 15, 2026, at a time to be announced. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.

As expressions of sympathy, Judy asked that you give a hug to a loved one.
