  • Rodney Pitre 1970-2026

  •  Date of Death: June 16, 2026
  •  Location: Bathurst

Following a courageous battle with cancer, it is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Rodney Pitre, beloved husband of Sherry (Ward) Pitre, at Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at the age of 55. Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Alice (Daigle) and Vincent Pitre.

Rodney was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He shared a remarkable love story with his wife, Sherry, whom he loved from a very young age. Having met in 1989, they had the privilege of growing up together and building a life side by side for more than 35 years. Together, they celebrated 25 years of marriage last August, a milestone that reflected the love, dedication and partnership they shared throughout their lives.

Rodney was also a proud and loving father to his daughter, Haley, whose accomplishments brought him immense joy. He loved spending time with family and friends and treasured travelling the world with his wife and daughter.

Known for his patience, kindness, and willingness to help others, Rodney was someone people could always count on. He was exceptionally talented with his hands and could fix just about anything. Whether it was repairing a vehicle, replacing a roof, laying flooring, or tackling a new project, there seemed to be no task beyond his abilities. He approached every job with skill, determination, and pride in his work. Rodney was active in the community and took great pride in his work with the City of Bathurst, where he was respected by colleagues and friends alike.

Besides his wife Sherry, he is survived by his daughter, Haley, who graduated from Mount Allison University in 2024 and is currently attending law school at McGill. Rodney thought the world of his daughter and was immensely proud of all she had accomplished. He is also survived by his brothers Irvin Pitre (Dena) and Perry Pitre, both of South Tetagouche; his sisters, Nicole Pitre (Yvon) of St. Anne, Delores Pitre (Peter Valcourt) of South Tetagouche, Sandy Pitre (Claude Boudreau) of Robertville, and Sylvia Pitre (Alvin) of South Tetagouche; his mother-in-law, Shirley Ward; his brothers-in-law, Edward (Linda) Ward, Walter Ward, and Timothy (Heather) Ward; as well as many nieces and nephews and his faithful four-legged pal, Charlie.

Rodney is predeceased by his parents, sister Sharon Pitre, brother Percy Pitre, and father-in-law Edward Ward.

The family would like to send a huge thank you to the City of Bathurst for their support over the years, as well as the staff in palliative care at the Chaleur Regional Hospital.

In keeping with Rodney’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. However, there will be a celebration of life at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
