With great sadness, the family announces the passing of John Andrew Lavigne, of Ottawa, after a short battle with cancer, on August 21, 2026, at the age of 58.
Andrew was the youngest son of the late Aurele and Anna (Perugini) Lavigne of Bathurst.
He is survived by four brothers: George (Ottawa), Alphonse (Bathurst), Gaetano (Burlington), and Carl (Fredericton) and one sister, Elvira (Ottawa).
After attending Bathurst High School, Andrew graduated from Acadia University in computer science in 1989 and went on to have a distinguished career as a software developer at BNR, Nortel and IBM. He was an avid motorsport and driving enthusiast, and a highly skilled mountaineer and hiker, having completed epic adventures through Canada, the US, Europe and Africa. He was an exceptional photographer and videographer who captured his adventures and shared them with a world-wide audience via his website www.alavigne.net . With his generous, playful and passionate character, he impacted the lives of so many of his family, friends, and colleagues, both locally and abroad.
There will be a memorial service in Ottawa on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 1PM, at the Marconi Center, 1026 Baseline Road, Ottawa, Ontario. A reception will follow at the same location. There will be a funeral and burial service in Bathurst in the spring of 2027.
