Bathurst - Elvera Kennah, loving wife of the late Clifford Kennah, passed away on October 22, 2026 at the age of 96.

Born in Bathurst, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and the late Irma Doucet.

She is survived by her sister: Anne Marie Picot (Yvon); her four children: Robert ‘Bob’ Kennah (Beth), Beverly Arseneau (Tom), Debbie Guidry (Lorn), and Peter Kennah (Karen). Grandchildren: Christine Walker, Jason Guidry, Michelle Arseneau, Tracy Morgan, Matthew & Andrew Kennah, Troy & Taylor Kennah. Great grandchildren: Kallie Arseneau, Kaden Walker, Kenna Guidry, Wren Kennah, Alex Morgan and Megan Morgan. Great great grandchildren: Bishop, Oaklynn, Summit. Also, several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, she was pre-deceased by her brother: Maurice (Buck) Doucet & his wife Aline, her brother Rod Doucet & his wife Cathy. A great grandson: Thomas Hornford.

Mom was the nucleus of our family and loved it when we all got together for holidays. She always made sure we had delicious desserts to finish off the meals. One of her accomplishments was being in charge of staffing when she & Clifford owned the DeGrace Hotel situated on the property now called Le Royale. She was a volunteer at the hospital for over 25 years and a long time member of the CWL. She was an avid curler and participated in many bonspiels in the Maritimes and even got to play in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts out West. Every summer she looked forward to moving to the cottage on Youghall beach where she enjoyed the hustle and bustle of family and friends dropping by, and watching the grandchildren grow up enjoying the beach. Another one of her favourite activities was playing cards, whether it was auction 45, poker or bridge. Apparently she was a shrewd bridge player and could remember what cards were played and which weren’t. The grandchildren also got to spent many happy hours playing card games with Nan. Although Mom was afraid of flying, she got to travel to Florida, Hawaii, South Africa, Australia and several cities across Canada. She made great and lasting memories for us all.

Her easy going nature allowed her to enjoy each day. She had a great sense of humour and the most beautiful smile which she shared with everyone she met.

Fond memories of ‘Mom’, ‘Nan’, ‘Grand Nanny’ and ‘Sis’ will be forever in our hearts.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday October 27, 2026, at 2p.m. from Elhatton’s Funeral Home Chapel. Donations in memory of Elvera may be made to the Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes or a charity of a donor’s choice.

Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home, Bathurst (www.elhatton.com).
