In Loving Memory of Hans Juergen Derouaux
Hans Juergen Derouaux, aged 87, passed away on October 26, 2026, at Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst, New Brunswick.
Born in Germany in 1939, Hans came to Canada at the age of 19 to begin a new chapter in his life. In 1966, he met his future wife, Sharon Hopper, and they were married on July 1, 1967. Together, they shared many years of love, family, and cherished experiences.
Hans worked as a millwright and foreman at Seagram’s Winery in Dorval, Quebec, for 27 years. Through his dedication and skill, he built a respected career and made lasting contributions to his workplace.
Hans was an accomplished athlete and a noted soccer player in Germany. Throughout his life, he remained passionate about sports and physical activity, enjoying cycling, running, biathlon, triathlon, and golf, where he achieved an impressive two handicap.
After retiring, Hans embraced new opportunities to explore his creativity and share his talents with others. He joined several choirs, learned to play the trombone with the Bathurst Community Concert Band, and later became a member of the Phantom Jazz Band. He also sang with the Treble Makers.
Hans loved performing and brought joy to many through his participation in church dinner theatres and vintage fashion shows held in support of community causes.
Hans will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sharon; his daughters, Nadia Mercier (Steven) and Karin Derouaux; and his grandchildren, Hannah Mercier, Luke Mercier, Eva Surridge, and Dahlia Surridge.
